Mobile Family

Mobile Family is the largest and oldest program among the Xtra mile programs. Mobile Family is a group of people who are committed to be the family to the orphans who do not have family. Being a part of that group we learn to have compassion and to care about what God cares about.

Around the country of Rwanda there are thousands of orphans who are alone.  People in Xtra Mile are aware that God has blessed and enabled us to be there for others, he has especially blessed those of us who are genocide orphans to know what to be alone is like; therefore we try to do whatever is needed to be a blessing to other people.

How great it is, to see orphans visiting and comforting other fellow orphans!

Pray with us that the mobile family would become a movement not just a program.  We believe that this is one of the most effective way to reach out to people.  After all God so loved the world that he didn’t set up a committee or a program; He sent us his Son.  Let’s do the same…

Mobile Family

Mobile Family is the biggest program among the Xtra mile programs. The Mobile Family is a group of people who are committed to be the family to the orphans who do not have family. To be in such a group has a cost which is simply to be like Jesus. That is to be compassionate and care for what God cares for.

Around the country of Rwanda there are thousands of orphans who need some one to visit and comfort them.  People in the Xtra Mile are aware that God has blessed every one to do that. Also, most people in the Xtra Mile know what to be alone is like; therefore we try to do whatever is needed to be a blessing to other people.

How great, to see the orphans visiting and comforting other fellow orphans!

The typical trip from the past few weeks has involved an overnight (or multiple nights) stay in someone’s house, some form of tangible blessing (building a fence, or garden, etc…), followed by a fellowship where the Word is shared in small groups, orphans succeding in school are rewarded with an Xtra Mile T-shirt, and we encourage them to form their own community that functions as a family centered around Jesus and the simple values of XM (Love, Trusting in God, Sharing, and Patience)

Some time to be in Mobile family asks a cost of being away of our comfort zones.  Some times it means walking many kilometers to arrive at the orphans homes.

We are determined that God didn’t call the orphans of Rwanda to go find the Church but that he called us, his people, his hands and his feet to go and find them.

Self-Discovery Workshops

Mobile Family

November was busy with different trips and workshops. The workshop’s topic was “Self-Discovery”. Every trip was led by the students from the district where the workshop was held along with the XMM community. Also they organized the schedule and activities for the workshops.

The main workshops were held in two districts: Bugesera and Huye with a one day trip to Nyanza district. Marty Koonce, Ndiyunze Adolph, Charles Kabeza, Willy Niyonteze, Gaethan Nsanzineza, Victory, Jado, Joseph Karimijabo and John were the speakers.

fcd_xm_2009_11_cOn last day of workshop in Huye, the main speaker was the Vice Mayor of Huye district. The fruit of these trips and workshops was very positive. Many orphans have new attitudes, increased their student scores and are making a commitment to serve their communities. Also some of who were older and uneducated decided to join schools even though they look older than students they will study with.

The main points of trip and workshops were:

  • To get to know who God’s Word says that we are.
  • To review what XMM accomplished since it started to work in those places.
  • To reward the best students.
  • To select the new students to come to the XMM education program 2010.
  • To partner with local authorities.

A selecting team was composed by four people including; one representative of a district in XMM community, two people from the board of XMM and one person from a different district (Neutral). This team was in charge of selecting and giving a test to the new students who were chosen by district orphans community, and met criteria.
